A Note To Self
In today’s society, it is becoming increasingly difficult to build and maintain self-confidence. We are
often inundated with the unrealistic ideals that society sets for us in terms of beauty and physical
fitness, leading many to feel inadequate and insecure about themselves. It is easy to forget that real
confidence must come from within. TD Jakes says something along the lines: “you can’t convince a
person that they are beautiful if they don’t believe they are”.
At times, it can be difficult to cope with the pressures of external standards and expectations which we
may not meet or feel comfortable with. This can lead to feelings of low self-esteem and lack of self-
worth. The truth is that at the end of the day, you cannot rely on anyone else but yourself to build your
self-confidence. It requires dedication, hard work and consistent effort over time in order to achieve
lasting results.
One way to start building your confidence is by acknowledging your own unique set of skills, qualities,
and attributes which make you who you are. For instance, if you consider yourself to be an excellent
listener or cook, write this down on paper as a reminder every day. If you want something even more
tangible then why not create a visual representation such as a poster or collage? Similar to a vision
board, but we can call it our self-esteem board or our “look what I have done board”? This could include
images that remind you of your strengths and capabilities - anything from photos of family members or
friends who have supported you in life, certificates for accomplishments or awards won at school or
work, etc.
You should also look at setting realistic goals for yourself including both short-term objectives (e.g daily
tasks) as well as longer-term aspirations (e.g career goals). As each goal is achieved no matter how
small, reward yourself with positive affirmations; this will help reinforce positive behavior patterns over
time leading towards higher levels of self-belief/esteem in future situations too!
Finally, remember that everyone has their struggles when it comes to feeling confident - it's perfectly
normal! You don't have to do everything alone either; seek support from those around you who care
about your mental well-being - whether it's friends, family, or professionals like therapists or counselors
- all are welcome sources for advice and guidance if needed! All this is just a reminder that although
having self-confidence may be difficult at times, it definitely starts from within; so take steps today
towards forming healthier habits towards living a more fulfilling life full of inner strength!
Love yaSELF!
